FETISH FEBRUARY: PART 1 - A History of Fetishes
When we say "fetish," what comes to mind? Maybe it's leather, latex, or something more specific like feet or even balloons. But did you know that fetishes have been around for thousands of years?
Let's kick things off by taking a trip back in time. Did you know that the ancient Greeks used to worship large penises? Or that the ancient Egyptians had a god named Min, who was known for his impressive erection? Yep, fetishes have been around for a loooong time. We'll also delve into how fetishes evolved into the modern-day sexual desire we know today.
The ancient Greeks worshipped a god named Priapus, who was often depicted with a large penis. The Romans had a goddess named Fascinus, who was also associated with the male genitalia. In ancient Egypt, there was a god named Min, who was known for his impressive erection. These are just a few examples of how fetishes have been a part of human culture and mythology for centuries.
But how did these early examples of fetishes evolve into the modern-day sexual desire we know today? One theory is that the word "fetish" comes from the Portuguese word "feitiço," which means "charm" or "sorcery." In the 19th century, European explorers used the term "fetishism" to describe the practice of African tribes who worshipped objects like wooden carvings or animal skins. Later, this term was applied to sexual desire for non-human objects or body parts.
Of course, not all fetishes are non-human. Many people are attracted to specific body parts, like feet or hands, or to certain materials, like leather or latex. Some people are turned on by specific scenarios, like role-playing or public sex. The beauty of fetishes is that there is no one-size-fits-all definition. It's all about exploring what turns you on and finding a consenting partner to explore with.
So whether you're into leather, balloons, or something else entirely, remember that fetishes have a rich history and are a natural part of human sexuality. In the next installment of our series, we'll explore the wide range of fetishes out there, from the more common to the more unusual. Stay tuned! 🤗
